ABOUT DAN WILLIAMS

I’m a senior engineering leader with a strong technical foundation and a track record of scaling high-performing teams and platforms in complex, mission-critical domains — most recently in the global energy tech space. After earning a First Class degree in Computer Science, I began my career delivering enterprise systems for international airports — building, deploying, and supporting operational software at scale across Europe and Asia. I then spent over six years at SIS, where I progressed from hands-on developer to Software Development Manager and Solutions Architect, leading a 20-strong engineering team and replatforming core services using Docker and modern Java technologies.Since 2018, I’ve been part of the journey at Upside Energy, now Kraken, where I started as Development Lead and grew alongside the company. I initially led a single agile team and went on to scale our engineering capabilities across multiple teams and geographies, delivering cloud-native, serverless solutions on AWS.Today, as Global Head of Software Engineering for Kraken, I lead the Generation Flex engineering function globally. We build and operate the critical control and telemetry systems that orchestrate flexible energy assets — enabling grid operators, aggregators, and energy retailers to shift away from fossil fuels and make better use of renewables. This work is directly contributing to decarbonising the grid and fighting climate change at scale.Key focus areas include: • Scaling and mentoring distributed engineering teams across multiple countries • Driving architectural strategy for real-time, cloud-native energy platforms • Leading customer-facing technical engagements and commercial collaborations • Ensuring operational excellence, reliability, and regulatory compliance • Driving cross-functional alignment across product, commercial, and operational teamsWhile I’m less hands-on with code than I used to be, I stay as close as I can — helping guide architectural decisions, reviewing designs, and jumping into detail when needed.I’m passionate about solving real-world problems through clean architecture, sustainable engineering practices, and strong team culture — and proud to be using technology to help tackle one of the most urgent challenges of our time: the climate crisis.Outside of work, I’m a husband, father of three, a football coach and enjoy time outdoors with my family.
