ABOUT DAN THOMAS

Experienced and performance driven operations leader with a background in engineering, lean manufacturing and process development. In my current role as Head of Operations, I lead multiple teams across the value stream to ensure the effective development, production and delivery of quality products and services. I am responsible for developing and implementing new business strategies, to help grow and diversify our manufacturing business. With a track record in stakeholder management, I ensure both teams and individuals are led to operate to their full potential, fostering a culture that yields an engaged workforce. I also have the privilege of working as the King’s Assay Master at the Royal Mint – a centuries-old role that is appointed to serve the reigning monarch to ensure the integrity of the British coinage and has existed for hundreds of years. The Assay Master role tests the quality of the coins and precious metals, underpinned by traditional craftsmanship and innovation at The Royal Mint. The role also includes upholding the integrity of UK Hallmarking standards by inspecting the four UK Hallmarking offices annually in accordance with the Hallmarking Act of 1973.A qualified mechanical engineer and trained in six sigma, I am recognised as an effective problem solver with a track record in being able to leverage engineering principles to drive operational efficiency, drive a culture of continuous improvement and make real step changes. As part of my current day job I also consult on new product introduction, cost down exercises and efficiencies and budget management.
