About Dan Tarker

An accomplished higher education leader with twenty years of experience as a faculty member and administrator, I am dedicated to dismantling barriers to support historically underrepresented populations. I possess a proven track record of building organizational units, designing curriculum, and initiating programs that promote student success and retention using DEI best practices. I’m also highly experienced with program review, institutional research, strategic planning, resource management, budgeting, grant writing, personnel training, policy development, curriculum design, and change leadership. As a learning and development (L&D) professional with extensive experience curating professional development experiences for faculty and staff, I aspire to create inclusive, human centered learning experiences informed by best practices in design thinking. L&D interests include using qualitative and quantitative research methods to inform and assess training experiences, utilizing storytelling and metacognition principles to enhance learning, incorporating arts-based methods to promote engagement, and designing leadership workshops that provide teams and organizations with the tools and mindsets to create innovative cultures. My research interests include: Higher Education Leadership, Crisis Management, Student Support/Success Programs, Dramatic Writing, Dramaturgy, Ethnodramatic Theatre, Postmodern Theatre, Arts Based Inquiry and Research, Theatre of the Oppressed, Qualitative Research Methods, Strategic Planning, and Program Evaluation. Finally, I am an accomplished writer and artist whose plays have been produced by 14/48, Pacific Play Company, Seattle Playwrights Collective, Actors Theatre Santa Cruz, The Western Stage, Phoenix Theatre, and Spokane Radio Theatre. My fiction has been published in Lothorien and Confetti literary journals. My research on executive leadership has also been published in multiple academic publications. Experience

  1. Associate English Faculty

    Shoreline Community College

Sep 2016 — Present · Shoreline, WA, US

Teach English composition courses emphasizing a social constructivist pedagogy to help students develop their own writing process. Also utilize the productive persistence pedagogy to help promote retention and success in the class. For English 101, I approach it as a survey course of multiple academic writing genres. For English 102, I approach it as a themed based research class that culminates in a portfolio project that includes a literature review and two essays critically exploring their research topic linked together with an introduction, bridge paragraph, and a conclusion.
