You can follow my musings at 2024, I became the emeritus Presidential Professor of Computational Science, as well as a Professor of Computer Science and Electrical & Computer Engineering, after serving as Utah\'s Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs (aka Provost). I also served as Chair of the National Science Board (NSB), which provides oversight for the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) and science and technology advice to the White House and Congress.I work on science and technology policy, with particular emphasis on high-performance computing, big data, and edge networks. Before Utah, I served as the University of Iowa’s Vice President for Research and Economic Development, as Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President for Technology Policy and Extreme Computing, as Chancellor\'s Eminent Professor and Founding Director of the Renaissance Computing Institute (RENCI) at UNC Chapel Hill, as Edward William and Jane Marr Gutgsell Professor and Head of Computer Science at the University of Illinois, and as Director of the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA).Specialties: Education futures, science and technology policy, technology innovation and policy, spectrum policy, Internet futures, high-performance computing, large-scale systems, multicore systems, web services, scientific computing, cloud computing
