ABOUT DAN GIBSON

Dan is the Technical Director of MJ Medical with over 30 years’ experience across the spectrum of healthcare project advisory. As a principal consultant and project executive, he heads MJ Medicals clinical consultancy and technical project teams, providing health facility planning, design and procurement consultancy. Dan works in partnership with healthcare providers, investors, architects, engineers and contractors to deliver innovative, effective and adaptable services and facilities that respond to the changing needs of the community. Dan’s extensive experience spans more than 300 projects across 75 countries totalling approximately US$100 billion in capital value.He is highly experienced in healthcare facility planning, clinical and project visioning, clinical service planning, developing models of care and operational policies, undertaking demand and capacity modelling and scenario planning, developing the project brief, functional content and functional relationship diagrams, schedules of accommodation, user group management, healthcare design, sustainability, equipment and technology planning, specification, cost modelling, procurement, commissioning and activation. His speciality spans UK and International health economies, both in the developed and developing countries. He acts as client-side advisor and as part of private sector consortia across Social, Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary Care sectors, field hospitals, military hospitals and hospital ships. Dan is a frequent speaker at conferences around the world, including Asia, Middle East, North America and Europe and spent more than a decade as a visiting lecturer for the MSc Planning Buildings for Health programme run by the Medical Architecture Research Unit, part of the Faculty of Engineering Science and the Built Environment at the London South Bank University.Dan is one of the founding members and director of the Healthcare Planning Academy which aims to provide a professional development resource to entrants and practitioners within the discipline, to establish an industry-wide framework of accreditation, and to maintain and continuously improve standards.He is also a founding member, director and faculty of Healthcare Design Leadership (CIC) a not-for-profit organisation with the purpose to provide training to empower NHS and public healthcare providers to maximise their input in the hospital development process.
