Working in logistics was a transformative experience. For ten years, I learned the importance of problem-solving, staying calm under pressure, and building strong relationships. I’m so grateful for the colleagues, mentors, and clients who have shaped my journey and made this career fulfilling.As I reflected on my long-term goals, I realized I wanted to make an even deeper impact in my career—one rooted in care, compassion, and helping people during some of their most vulnerable moments. That’s why I’ve made the decision to step away from brokering freight and step into nursing school.

As a Patient Care Intern for the Surgical Progressive Care Unit (SPCU) at Indiana University Health — University Hospital, I provide direct support to patients and the healthcare team while advancing my clinical knowledge as a nursing student. In this role, I work under the supervision of registered nurses to:• Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) and mobility needs• Monitor and document vital signs, intake/output, and report changes to the nursing team• Provide compassionate support to patients and families during their treatment journey• Maintain a clean, safe, and healing environment for patients• Observe and learn from experienced RNs to strengthen my clinical judgment and bedside skillsThis position allows me to apply the fundamentals of nursing in a real-world setting while continuing my education. I am developing strong communication, teamwork, and patient-centered care skills that will serve as the foundation of my future nursing career.
