ABOUT DANIEL MERRIMAN
From the valleys of South Wales but based in the North of England since 2004, I have been leading software and product development teams for over 10 years, working primarily with pro-social, edtech, and tech-for-good organisations. Most recently I was Head of Software Engineering at Citizens Advice, leading a department of 40 engineers to ensure people across the country can get free, impartial, expert advice whenever they need it. Previously, I was Lead Product Manager for Typing.com, the world’s most popular typing tutor programme with over 45 million students and teachers, as well as leading on product and technology initiatives for the Raspberry Pi Foundation, Sony Music, Sky Sports, Polpeo, Skills Builder, and Pebble. Before moving into tech, I was a Sociology lecturer and researcher at the University of York, and a Board Trustee for the Nos Da Project.In 2020 I founded Daniel Merriman Coaching, a consulting, training and coaching practice to help businesses, product managers and technology professionals overcome obstacles, unblock themselves, and become exceptional at the things that matter most to them. Clients include technologists from Amazon, Uber, Dropbox, and Reddit who all trusted me to help them think differently, get unstuck, and work out their next steps. Outside of my day job, I speak regularly about pro-social product management, sustainable engineering practices and ethics in tech. I’ve delivered guest lectures at Carnegie Mellon University for their Masters degree in Public Policy and Management, as well as at Harvard University, Nantong University, the University of Essex, York St John University, and Leeds Beckett University.
