As part of the inaugural cohort of Centro\'s Rooted + Relational Research Associate Program, I participated in an ongoing discussion, organized around the topic of \"Archives, Memory & the Present Past of Puerto Rico,\" with a broadly interdisciplinary (and brilliant!) group of peers. Towards my own projects this year, I conducted archival research (in Puerto Rico and the U.S.), wrote and edited a series of essays about slavery and abolition in Puerto Rico, coordinated a bilingual, international anthology on the topic, and co-edited a special issue of the Centro Journal (spring 2025) about Black Puerto Rican Studies. One essay (revised this year) about strategies enslaved Puerto Ricans used to resist the institution of slavery has been published; another (written and revised) about formerly-enslaved persons living with disabilities who petitioned for exemptions from post-abolition forced labor systems, has been accepted for publication in an anthology; and a third (written this year) about the methods of centering the fullness of Black life when engaging the archives of Puerto Rican slavery, is under revision for another anthology.
