About Daniel Mahoney

I currently manage the Native American policy portfolio at the U.S. Chamber, which includes issues of sovereignty, economic development, energy and taxation: the Native American Enterprise Initiative (NAEI) seeks to build on the Chamber’s record of success and advocacy by focusing on the unique economic issues confronting Native American and tribally-owned business enterprises. Additionally, I also lobby antitrust issues for the Chamber: issues that focus on how the the Sherman, Clayton and FTC Acts are interpreted and practically employed by the FTC and DOJ, and perceived shortcomings in law that adversely affect competition in our economy. In the current Congress, much of my work is in drawing the distinction between ex post antitrust law and ex ante regulation. From 20••••19, I led the Chamber’s \"How They Voted\" project, which culminated annually in the Spirit of Enterprise ceremony. The Chamber\'s prestigious Spirit of Enterprise award is given annually to members of Congress based on rankings it gives for key business votes outlined in \"How They Voted.\" Previously, I served the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for a decade in the state legislature, where I became an expert at understanding state policymaking, lawmaking, and committee processes. Issues I was heavily engaged in included budget transparency, affordable housing and educational funding reform. I additionally have broad management experience, notably in the sales, retail and restaurant industries. I also have a demonstrated record in research, writing and critical thinking that spans both my professional and educational careers. As a graduate student, I defended a copiously researched and annotated thesis on the Yemeni political party Islah under the direction of a former US ambassador to Yemen.
