About Danielle Hoyt
I am currently a doctoral candidate in the Clinical Psychology PhD program at Rutgers. My research interests are the etiology and treatment of anxiety and mood disorders, the intersection of these with substance use disorders, and the dissemination/implementation of such interventions. I work as a graduate research assistant in the Affective and Biological Underpinnings of Substance use and Anxiety (ABUSA) lab under Dr. Teresa Leyro. I additionally am a teaching assistant in the Psychology Department. In my position as research coordinator of the Translational Research Program, a clinical psychology research lab within Boston University, I coordinated multiple ongoing research studies. These included an RCT of a smoking cessation intervention, an assessment of risk behaviors in a treatment-seeking alcohol use disorder patient study, and an assessment study of psychological reactions to the COVID-19 pandemic, among others. As a graduate student at Boston University I have completed coursework in a variety of psychological domains including several that are either related to or explicitly about the empirically supported treatments of various psychological disorders, particularly substance use disorders, anxiety disorders, and mood disorders. I now work as a research assistant in the Center for Anxiety and Related Disorders, and spent time as a teaching fellow for a drugs and behavior course. As an undergraduate at Bryant University, I was a member of the Honors program and completed a thesis project for it, made the dean\'s list every semester and the president\'s list twice. I graduated early, with Summa Cum Laude honors and was honored with the Excellence in Applied Psychology commencement award. Outside of academics, I also volunteer for a cause that is dear to me: Circle Camps for Grieving Children. This nonprofit organization provides free grief camps for girls (8-16 years old) who have experienced the death of one or both parents. In this organization I have been able to not only be a bunk counselor, living with the girls and participating in typical summer camp activities, but I have also had the opportunity to gain clinical exposure. Through the first 3 years of volunteering I sat in on grief activities, and in the summer of 2017 I became a clinical team intern, running several of these activities for the younger girls under supervision and participating in daily clinical team meetings with the social workers, clinical psychologists, and nurses on site. The same year I also ran the main individual bereavement experience for the Teen Program.
