Responsible for updating the Authorization dashboard in our Patient Database/Scheduling system- Maintain open lines of communication with all staff, including the Clinical Director/PT, the Office Coordinator, the Occupational Therapists/Certified Hand Therapists, as well as all Aides- Respond to the Therapists’ emails in a timely and very efficient manner to maintain organization as well as always putting the patient’s care and treatment at the forefront of our day to day duties- Prioritize new patient intake calls, which include scheduling the patient in the hospital database, as well as the Twin Boro database; Organize new patient paperwork for their Initial Eval appointment- Verify the new patient’s eligibility and benefits through insurance; Inform the patient of his/her financial responsibility, including copays, co-insurance, deductibles, OOP max, referral/authorization and visit limit- Follow up on all Plan of Care statuses for patients with Medicare and Medicaid; this includes calling the MD’s office, documenting follow ups in the communication log; refaxing POCs as necessary, obtaining alternate fax numbers, etc- Submit a detailed appeals letter if an authorization is denied. I’ve gone above and beyond with setting up a Peer to Peer with the Referring MD/Surgeon, as well as either the treating PT/OT on the case- Request and successfully obtain Retro Authorization; Assist Therapists in the process of submitting a Claims Correction Task for a Diagnosis code error/Documentation error- Run reports weekly, such as Future Appointments with Missing Authorization as well as the Patients not Scheduled Report; this is a great way to re-capture patients who may be following up with MDs, were sick and canceled appts, were on vacation & wanted to schedule upon return, etc. This ensures the patient is making progress towards their goals.
