The Division of Pulmonary and Respiratory Diseases at Boston Children’s Hospital provides care for infants, children and young adults with chronic and acute respiratory disorder. As one of the largest pediatric pulmonary services in the country, we care for more than patients each year and perform more than 400 surgical procedures annuallyThe scope of my responsibilities are to focus and serve as a resource in the provision of pharmaceutical care to patients within that specialty.•Integrate and coordinate with pharmacies, pharmaceutical manufactures, nursing leadership, physicians, ancillary and support representatives, and care management leaders to develop programs and establish practices that expedite prior authorization processing and Rx distribution. •Responsible for the oversight of medication use and identification of trends for the purpose of assessing medications, durable medical equipment, and enteral formulas that are medically necessary; while developing, implementing and managing pharmacy services by focusing on quality improvement activities, educational endeavors, and clinically specialized services.•Maintain current knowledge on rapid changes in technology, clinical practice, drug use, reimbursement, regulations pharmaceutical costs, patient compliance, and related issues. •Conduct Benefits investigation for patients, verifying insurance benefits, contacting insurers, identifying in-network non specialty and specialty pharmacies, and advising the patient of their specific health insurance benefit plan•Track physician prescribing patterns that lend themselves to improvement clinically and financially by utilizing pharmacy data to identify outliers and trends.•Provides patient support and education on to address issues on prior authorization and application of guidelines and criteria aligning them with the member’s approved benefit plan and coverage.
