Provide direct speech and language therapy to elementary-aged students/AAC users in special day classes - Provide individualized AAC support and consultation for over 60 AAC users across the district- Conduct comprehensive AAC assessments and device trials for complex communicators to ensure appropriate technology solutions- Deliver AAC-focused training at professional development days, including targeted sessions for instructional aides and general training for all elementary staff to promote awareness and inclusive support of AAC users- Develop and deliver AAC training for all district SLPs and SLPAs through regular group and individual sessions- Supervise and train SLPAs, providing in-depth guidance on speech and language therapy for AAC users who are emergent communicators- Facilitate regular parent training and support for families of AAC users to improve device use and communication strategies at home- Collaborate closely with SDC teachers to incorporate AAC devices into instruction, implement descriptive teaching strategies, develop individualized goals, and tailor instruction based on students’ communication abilities- Led a district-wide rollout of a tiered AAC approach utilizing a Specific-Language System First methodology, securing high-tech, robust AAC devices for over 30 students throughout the school year- Distributed low-tech core boards and flip books across the district as a Tier 1 AAC support- Advocated for improved literacy instruction for students with moderate to severe disabilities, aligning with Comprehensive Literacy for All. Collaborated with SDC teachers to implement evidence-based literacy practices, including the “Tell Me” and “Tell Me, Too” curriculums in two elementary SDC classrooms- Recognized for strong leadership, advocacy, and expertise in AAC and autism, as well as for fostering positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
