ABOUT DANIELLE JOHNSON
As I sat in my first social work class during my undergrad, I finally felt like I was home. I developed a passion for serving others in my community. The countless hours of public service, papers for school, and exams to study for was a small price to pay for the joy that I felt by giving back. My journey began when I started my first internship at the International Rescue Committee where I partnered with a team to create an Afghani women’s group where we created treatment plans to integrate the women and their children to life in America. During my time with New Friends New Life, a non profit agency that provides free therapy to victims of human trafficking, I learned the importance of seeing my clients holistically. I finally understood how the affects of childhood trauma played a monumental role in how the brain develops, as well as how my clients learned different coping mechanisms in order to survive in their environment. As a brand new MSW graduate, I received my first job offer through the Department of Family and Protective Services as an investigator for Child Protective Services. It was at this job that I saw the not-so-sparkly side of social services that everyone warns you about when you say you’re a social work major. However, it was at this job that I was able to see the possible minuscule change in a child’s life that I could make. My eldest sister is sixteen years older than me, so I grew up with her children. I have always loved being a caretaker and helping my sister raise them. My nieces and nephews are the inspiration for choosing children and family therapy as my concentration in graduate school. I love children, and I believe that if we can shape the next generation to be good, wholesome human beings, we can work on creating a better world. I also previously worked Concerted Care Group, offering telehealth group and individual therapy services for people diagnosed with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, BPD, and addiction. I used evidence based modalities including CBT, DBT, and FBT. I am licensed as an LMSW in the state of Texas and the state of Maryland, previously receiving supervision towards my LCSW-C in Maryland before taking a break to be a full time stay at home mom.
