Productive procrastination: when you do work that is productive, but it’s not the work that you’re supposed to be working on. I made up this concept while in graduate school because I often found myself making graphics, even when I should have been working on a different task.How do I make this data into a graph that portrays the main point? How do I make this protocol into a picture that’s easy to follow? How do I make this microscopy image more striking? How do I make this presentation slide into a graphic rather than bullet points? I discovered my passion in undergrad: the integration of art and science. I majored in Microscopy and became obsessed with the idea of capturing high-resolution images of organisms and fine structures to answer biological questions.Needless to say, I believe a picture is worth a thousand words.But pairing words with the picture is even better! And that’s what I get to do every day working at BioCentury. I particularly enjoy writing about new companies through our Emerging Company Profile series, and creating graphics and pipeline charts that capture translational trends through our Data Byte series.In my free time you\'ll find me cooking, baking, gardening, organizing or doing crafts such as tie-dying. I\'m also an avid Eurogame and Magic the Gathering player, as I enjoy the strategy and player interaction.
