About Daniel Hurwit
I’m a Senior Staff Software Engineer focused on building reliable, scalable platforms at the intersection of distributed systems, observability, and product impact. At ServiceNow Cloud Observability, I led the development of a net-new synthetic monitoring product from concept to $10M ARR, while providing technical leadership across multiple teams. My work has included re-architecting critical systems to move availability from three nines to five, improving on-call health through better alerting and standards, and building distributed systems that handle high-throughput, asynchronous workloads.Previously at Drift, I worked on real-time inference and backend platforms, including integrating an acquired ML product, improving reliability, and leading cost-efficiency efforts that saved over $1M annually.I’m most energized by designing durable distributed systems, improving reliability and observability, and mentoring engineers. Always happy to connect with folks building complex systems at scale. For more information and a selection of work check out my website linked below!
Experience
Senior Staff Software Engineer
Feb 2024 — Present
Led the design and delivery of a distributed synthetic monitoring platform, owning architecture, execution, and long‐term technical direction from initial concept through production scale and achieving 10M ARR• Provided technical leadership across 35 engineers and multiple teams, setting architectural standards and influencing roadmap decisions to improve reliability, velocity, and developer experience.• Re‐architected system‐critical services to remove single points of failure, improving availability from three nines to five nines and enabling consistent SLA compliance.• Designed and implemented asynchronous processing infrastructure to decouple latency‐sensitive paths, supporting hundreds of requests per second under sustained load.• Defined on‐call and alerting standards grounded in signal quality and actionability, significantly reducing alert fatigue while improving incident response effectiveness.• Embedded with underperforming teams to diagnose technical and organizational bottlenecks, driving changes that restored delivery and reliability outcomes.
