In my current role as Climate Policy Advisor, I support the development and delivery of regional climate strategies under Greater Manchester’s net-zero framework. My work focuses on aligning local decarbonisation efforts with public health goals and long-term environmental resilience.One of my key contributions has been co-developing the Local Industrial Decarbonisation Plan (LIDP), a framework that integrates ISO 14001-aligned policies and sector-specific resilience measures. This plan has provided a strategic foundation for inclusive, locally tailored climate action.I also led the design of a Decarbonisation Toolkit aimed at supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in implementing practical, cost-effective net-zero strategies. The toolkit addresses energy efficiency, air quality improvement, and climate adaptation, and has been distributed widely across the business community.As part of our stakeholder engagement work, I coordinate cross-sector forums that bring together representatives from local government, academia, energy providers, and public health bodies. These forums foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing, helping to embed sustainability principles across the region.I’ve also supported the alignment of local strategies with global frameworks such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ensuring that our work contributes to broader climate-health objectives.To support evidence-based policymaking, I executed an energy and emissions survey across Stakehill Industrial Estate, overcoming data access challenges and achieving a 35% response rate from 63 businesses. The resulting data has been used by the University of Manchester to support detailed emissions modelling for regional planning.

ABOUT DANIEL GREY
I\'m a sustainability and policy advisor with a background that spans public sector climate strategy, risk management, and international operations. Right now, I\'m working on projects that support Greater Manchester’s net-zero goals—helping shape decarbonisation plans, build practical toolkits for local businesses, and connect climate action with public health outcomes. Before moving into climate policy, I spent over a decade in the armed forces and later worked in risk consultancy for major infrastructure projects, both in the UK and overseas. That mix of experiences taught me how to bring people together around shared goals, manage complex challenges, and always keep the big picture in mind. I’m currently studying for an MSc in Global Energy and Climate Policy, and I hold a First-Class Honours degree in International Relations with a focus on environmental policy. I’m interested in roles where I can continue to work across sectors to make climate and energy policy more practical, inclusive, and grounded in real-world impact.
