ABOUT DANIEL BRESTON

Retired CIO, Principle Consultant, coach, blogger and speaker. Retired means I have stopped working the way I used to and started working the way I want to! In my 50 years of IT I have led countless transformations- New practices or processes- New technology- New people- New shiny things like DevOps, Agile, Lean and others. I am now wondering what impact my views or directorship as a CIO or Principle Consultant had on the people involved. The mental health impact of stress, depression, and anxiety. Yes, we made the goal but man oh man did the team suffer. And I never fully knew. Oh I knew it was challenging and it hurt, but I mean I did not know the full extent such that maybe, I could have helped lessen the impact. To me, this is especially important as we leave COVID and go to new ways of working that require even more technology and change. AI, VR, Robotics, heck even Alexa as part of an ITSM tool! What is the impact on people? What are their experiences? How do we as leaders or consultants know that we need to help? This is now my goal. To discuss and blog about this. I am also a board member of itSMF UK, a Fellow of the British Computer Society and IT Service Management, and in 2019 was a Top 25 Influencer in ITSM. My experience- Cultural and leadership transformation enabled by technology - Creating 11 data centres, managing apps & services & associated budgets - Had the extreme pleasure of working with countless people: staff, consultants, suppliers - Survived 12 major events thanks to a focus on Business Continuity blended with ITIL, SIAM, DevOps, Agile and lean leadership practices - Learned from the best: ITIL, DevOps, Lean, Agile, leadership, mentoring, coaching A favour please: if you are going to link to me, don\'t just hit the CONNECT button. Add a message and explain why you want to link. Don\'t say I want to grow my network as this is obvious. Explain why you want me in your network. After all, I am retiring! I will NOT accept requests to connect without a message.
