ABOUT DANIELA ALIBERTI

Broadly, my work examines how individuals, groups, and organizations are positioned within, and evaluated by, institutional fields. While my doctoral research primarily focused on the formation and consolidation of institutions, an essential focus of my current work is the exploration of gender- and ethnicity-based discrimination, viewed through the lens of intersectionality and systemic inequality. This approach enables a nuanced understanding of the complex interplay among various social categories and their impact on institutions. I investigate these dynamics across multiple industries, including the cultural and creative sectors—such as indie music, contemporary theatre, and cinema—as well as in more conventional settings, particularly within knowledge-intensive environments like professional service firms. In my research, I employ both quantitative and qualitative methodologies, spanning from a pure positivist stance to more critical approaches. My projects have been presented at national and international conferences, including the Academy of Management (AOM) Annual Meeting, the EGOS Colloquium, the EURAM Conference, the Strategic Management Society (SMS) Meeting, and the XR Global Conference, among others. In 2026, I will be a convenor for the EGOS Colloquium, and for the EURAM Conference (SIG 05 - GRDO, T05_04).Since my visiting research period in 2019, I have collaborated with the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, USA, on a series of projects exploring the impact of gender and ethnic differences within boardrooms. These projects utilize experimental methodologies, including the use of biometric data and virtual reality.Since 2022, I have also collaborated with the organizing committee of the Capri Summer School, a one-week workshop co-organized by AIDEA and the British Academy of Management, which focuses on developing critical perspectives and employing qualitative methodologies. Starting in 2025, I am part of the Critical Management Division community at the Academy of Management, for which I write the newsletter Conversations that Resist. At Università Cattolica, I am actively involved in teaching Organization Theory to undergraduate students in Economics and Management, in both Italian and English. I also teach Human Resource Management to Master’s students and serve as a tutor for field projects in the Master in Arts Management and the Master in International Human Resource Management programs. Additionally, I conduct seminars on Diversity Management and Change Management within the respective Master’s courses.
