https://themachinitiative.com/The Mach Initiative is a team of volunteers working to break the Guinness Speed Record for the fastest jet-powered model aircraft, which stands at 465 mph.Over the last two years, we have designed and assembled Kingfisher, a 1.3m long model aircraft which will reach a speed of 570 mph under the power of its Jetcat P300 Pro micro-turbojet engine. We secured sponsorships from Callen-Lenz, Siemens and Safran, providing the funds to build one aircraft and support in the logistics planning for a maiden flight in 2024. We’ve flown a 60% scale prototype, and we’ve amassed over 12,500 subscribers and views on our YouTube channel. My role as the team lead has seen me overseeing the design and leading a team of 8. This has included managing tasks and deliverables, conducting the systems engineering and technical integration work and managing engagement with sponsors. My technical focus has been the mechanical design and aerodynamics. Between May and July 2024, I was positioned full-time with the team in the lab at Bath as we manufactured our full-scale aircraft.
