About Daniel Roman

As a Senior Consultant at Menlo Innovations, I aspire to be a versatile individual serving as a developer, project manager, High-Tech® Anthropologist, and keynote speaker. In my primary role as a developer, I\'m dedicated to team growth and development. This includes internal activities like the \"Passport Experiment\" and \"Prosperity Process\" for Menlo\'s onboarding and peer-review. I\'m passionate about the difference between efficiency vs. effectiveness, experimental process-building, and the idea of slowing down to make others faster.Despite earning a Computer Science degree in 2015, my initial negative experiences in the software industry led me to work for the Nevada Conservation Corps and then in landscaping. I applied to my current technology firm with low expectations, intending a short stay, but have now been there for almost a decade, continuously learning about programming, consulting, and leadership.Beyond my technical roles, I seek challenges and aim to inspire others to challenge themselves. As a conference presenter I consider a talk successful if it prompts significant discussion among the audience afterward. I heartily believe in the powerful force of creating a joyful workplace and continue to encourage growth and joy among my peers and clients.

Experience

  1. Senior Software Consultant

    Menlo Innovations

Feb 2023 — Present · Ann Arbor, MI, US

As a senior consultant at Menlo, my role as a team-member shifts between individual contributor and group facilitator. This balance occurs in the variety of roles and projects I work on within Menlo and across many different definitions of \"we\". At the smallest definition of \"we\", I am working with a pair-partner to execute work tasks while simultaneously coaching and being coached. This work can manifest in software development as test-driving code, drawing system diagrams, or advising a client on technical direction. As a High-Tech Anthropologist, this work manifests as performing end-user observations, data synthesis, and presenting culture/process change conclusions to clients. At the largest definition of \"we\", I am participating in the process of influencing and guiding of Menlo and client teams. As both a developer and High Tech Anthropologist this manifests as coaching my peers through questions, elaborating on the why\'s behind certain tools and strategies, and designing new processes and tools to ensure success when myself or my peers aren\'t around.
