About Daniel Porter

After living and traveling all over North America, Daniel Porter is proud to call Indiana home. It is in this state that most of his education and professional pursuits have been anchored; he hopes to keep it that way, but welcomes remote opportunities. Daniel graduated cum laude from Ball State University with a Bachelor of Music. His undergraduate degree had a multi-faceted emphasis in music technology, composition, and percussion performance. While studying, Daniel worked as a recording engineer for the School of Music and spent his summers as the lead live audio technician at the famed Interlochen Center for the Arts in Michigan. Upon graduation, he relocated to Canada and worked as the senior audio associate at the internationally acclaimed Banff Centre for the Arts. Once repatriated, he created DP Sonics (now Porter Audio Design), an online audio production/consulting company specializing in stereo/stem mastering, podcast production, facility design, and nonprofit administration. Daniel expanded on his acoustics focused Master of Science (@Indiana University - Indianapolis) while working as the southeast regional manager and product training specialist for Auralex Acoustics, Inc. He has acoustically designed thousands of critical listening spaces ranging from vocal booths to amphitheaters and traveled the US giving home studio setup seminars. During all this time, Daniel performed in or recorded with dozens of bands on drum-kit, hand drums, mallets, ukulele, bass, piano, and vocals covering nearly all genres of music. In addition, he has mastered records for scores of independent artists from across the globe. As an educator, Daniel held a full-time teaching contract at Ball State as an associate lecturer and faculty advisor to the student run nonprofit record label; Beneficence Records. He has also worked as adjunct faculty for Indiana University - Indianapolis as well as taught percussion privately and within regional high schools. As a volunteer, he has delivered food for hunger relief agency Second Helpings, Inc, fundraised for the Indiana chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, mediated with the James E. Waters Conflict Resolution Center, and served as a poll worker in Marion County elections. He has also sat on the boards of Indiana music nonprofits Musical Family Tree, Tonic Ball, and the Inspire Music Collective as well as the Near East Area Redevelopment Corporation of Indianapolis. In his spare time, Daniel enjoys hiking, biking, kayaking, motorcycling, and traveling with his beloved wife and children.
