About Daniel Perez Becerra
As a first-generation Chicano student at Harvard College studying Psychology and Integrative Biology, I’m driven by a commitment to advance mental health, public health, and equitable healthcare, especially for Latinx and immigrant communities like the one that raised me in Salinas, CA. Growing up in an agricultural town where language barriers and limited access to care were everyday realities shaped my purpose: to help build a healthcare system where every patient feels understood, respected, and seen.My work across youth mental health, community partnerships, and public health research reflects that purpose. At AIM Youth Mental Health, I support youth-led research, mentor young advocates, and help strengthen programs that empower students statewide. Through the SPARK Fellowship and my roles in community organizations, I’ve engaged directly with Latinx youth, expanded access to prevention programs, and developed projects focused on substance-use prevention and mental health awareness.These experiences fuel my long-term goal of becoming a physician committed to health equity, integrating public health, environmental science, and sustainable policy into patient care. I hope to help create a future where healthcare is language-concordant, accessible, culturally aware, and environmentally responsible.Beyond my academic and community work, I’m grounded by the things that shaped me: the resilience of my parents, coffee shop conversations, books that challenge me, and long walks by the ocean, moments that remind me why I serve and who I’m striving for.
