Independently driving medium-to-large projects Leading the API guild within the wider RTC team - due to low engagement levels and insufficient productivity, the Leadership team decided to change the leader at the time and I was selected as the one to solve these issues. Overall, that happened via strengthening the internal processes and reducing context-switching by spreading ownership of the estate of services we are responsible for across the team. Designed and implemented a RESTful app (in Spring, backed up by database and cache) from scratch as it became part of the company’s fraud-prevention solution, one of the key Vonage initiatives for the entire year- Researched on various database and caching options(compared via proof of concept), including cost analysis- Designed the API and database schema- Integrated with AWS-hosted solutions, namely AWS Lambda, Aurora MySQL, S3, SNS and SQS- Part of the infra, metrics and alerting design and implementation- Driving the GA readiness process- Infrastructure cost assessment- Created support-oriented docs- Added smoke tests via Python Leading the team’s standup, making the process more efficient and less error-prone, ie reducing chance of unestimated tasks, forgotten nudges on blockers, PRs long waiting for a review, etc- Evolved sprint planning process so workload considers learning curve, individuals bandwidth (ie BAU distractions), inter-team dependencies Leading the team’s retrospectives Was trusted to be assigned Team Leader training, course shared with more senior team members As part of my annual personal objectives, reached out to non-engineering teams to identify which one (based on their use cases) would benefit the most from me automating a cumbersome, time-consuming and error-prone process of theirs. The result of my work (developed in Python) indeed saved time and money for them, and in turn for the company. Embedded testing, demo and support documentation within the overall task

ABOUT DANIEL NIKOLOV

A problem-solver who loves being presented with diverse tasks and overcoming the new challenges, these would pose. I enjoy developing software the most in Java, but I am also willing to go out of my comfort zone and learn new languages, frameworks and concepts, as a whole, as can be seen by the variety of different domains I have been involved in as part of my professional experience.Believer that strong interpersonal skills are key to succeeding within a team. Fan of: pairing (due to rapid knowledge-sharing it gives) efficient and maintainable tests concise (but still detailed) documentation bringing efficiency in the team’s processes (ie Standup, Retrospective events, post-mortem events)
