About Daniel Martin

Experienced public health professional with established track record in global and domestic disease surveillance, emergency response and preparedness, multidisciplinary team leadership, community engagement, and program management. Gifted public speaker and passionate/compassionate mentor.I\'ve become increasingly convinced that, along with improvements to science (and, of course, funding), we in the public health profession desperately need to (re)discover humility in our approach and practice. My doctoral dissertation,\"Community Engagement in the International Emergency Response to Ebola, 20••••16,\"(http://dx.doi.org/https://doi.org/10•••09/33••••82) addresses several issues in this arena.Note on new connections: Bona fide recruiters welcome; public health professionals - current and aspiring - also welcome. Sales contacts (i.e, selling me something) and investment/financial advisors will not be accepted.Note on job opportunities: I share interesting employment opportunities with followers as I come across them. I do not have hiring authority, cannot recommend any individual to any specific opportunity. Sharing a position is not an endorsement of organization or cause. I welcome questions from public health job seekers and developing public health professionals, but please understand that I have no means to refer your resume to any recruiting official.

Experience

  1. Epidemiologist

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Aug 2025 — Present · Atlanta, GA, US

Epidemiologist in the Global Public Health Systems Branch, Division of Global Health Protection, Global Health Center, US CDC. I\'m working with a team that helps country health authorities to analyze the timeliness by which they have detected, reported, and mounted a response to outbreaks with epidemic potential, using the \"7-1-7\" framework originally developed by Resolve to Save Lives (https://717alliance.org/). The purpose of this analysis is to identify bottlenecks that may have led to excessive time in detection, notification, or response, and use continuous quality improvement strategies to remedy those bottlenecks.
