ABOUT DANIEL LUGO

Over the course of my career, I have passed public policy and secured over $10 million for human services, crisis prevention, and affordable housing development. For example, I independently developed communication and advocacy strategies to secure $8.4 million (within one year) to build a workforce development center for youth experiencing homelessness. I also envisioned and developed legislation to establish the YMCA of Greater Seattle’s recent statewide Lifeline pilot program, which served as a no-wrong-door access point to crisis prevention services for vulnerable youth and young adults. Lifeline received over 500 calls from youth ages 12-25 years old within 10 months of operation but could only serve roughly 100 individuals because of eligibility requirements. I\'m proud of this work that highlighted a severe gap in crisis prevention that the state can invest in further. And during the \'20-\'21 biennium, I secured close to $2m for DCYF to revamp its Independent Living Program.As of March 2026, I have decided to step away from government relations to serve vulnerable communities directly as a case manager at the Low Income Housing Institute. This role allows me to see firsthand how policy plays out on the ground - experience that strengthens my advocacy, especially in the councils I sit on, such as the Affordable Housing Advisory Board (Dept. of Commerce), the Seattle Renters Commission (City of Seattle), and more.
