About nine months into my time at eComEngine, our CEO decided to alter the top management structure in order to improve our operating efficiency. As a result, I was promoted to Director of IT due to: my skills and background in architecture and engineering; my strengths as a people leader, manager, and coach; and my love of and contributions around technology strategy. As Director of IT, I joined the executive Leadership Team reporting in to the CEO and assumed accountability for our entire 20-person technology function. This includes the obvious architecture, engineering, operations, and QA functions, but also extends to: our Lean Agile workflow process, business systems management and support, business reporting and analytics, budget management (including our entire capital expense budget), information security, recruiting and hiring, staff development and performance management, and vendor management. Some of the big accomplishments I\'m proud of:* Increased the uptime of our products from about 98% to over 99.9% while reducing our infrastructure spend by 20%.* Built the \"strongest IT team in company history\"* Reorganized IT to create a formal Platform/SRE/DevOps team as a key enabler for product delivery * Reduced cycle time of our product teams by 50% by publishing DORA scorecards and focusing on engineering quality practices such as CI/CD, automated unit testing, trunk-based development, and feature flags.* Initiated our complete migration out of our data center and into Azure. I wrote and presented the business case to launch this program and am leading the overall planning and execution.* Reduced recruiting costs by 30% by developing new recruiting and interviewing processes that\'s more fair for the candidates and is significantly faster for us to operate.* Introduced a company-wide goal-setting process using 6-week iterations to focus time and effort more effectively and reduce waste.
