About Daniel J. van Abs

Dr. Dan Van Abs was appointed as Professor in 2021, after having served as an Associate Professor at Rutgers University, School of Environmental and Biological Sciences since 2012. He is a member of the College of Fellows, American Institute of Certified Planners. He previously served as a manager with the Highlands Water Protection and Planning Council (NJ), NJ Water Supply Authority and NJ Department of Environmental Protection during his 25 years with New Jersey state government, and as Technical Director of the Passaic River Coalition. He is an acknowledged expert in water resources and watershed management and planning in New Jersey. With Karen O\'Neill of Rutgers, he is co-editor and co-author of a 2016 publication of Rutgers University Press, Taking Chances: The Coast after Hurricane Sandy.    Teach courses in water resources and environmental policy, environmental careers, and watershed management internships. Conduct research and writing in the same fields and water utility management issues, primarily focused on New Jersey. Serve on a wide variety of project advisory committees on watershed management, water supply, wastewater management, etc.
