WORK HISTORY
Principal Engineer @Seaty.Co.Uk
Built and operated a UK multi-tenant SaaS platform for amateur theatre companies, choirs, schools, charities and community arts groups. Expanded beyond ticketing into rehearsals, attendance, members, compliance and reporting in one system. £1.5M+ processed annually with peak months over £200k. Operating since 2014 alongside day jobs, full-time from 2025. Shipped through COVID and across multiple architectural generations without service disruption.Product Scope & User ExperienceOwns and evolves the product 100+ organisations use every day for rehearsals, ticketing, door check-in, media sharing and reconciliation. Covers lines of code, 166 API endpoints and 143 database migrations.Delivered end-to-end across three apps: C#/.NET / SQL Server API on Azure, React + TypeScript web SPA, and React Native mobile with offline-first sync. Features flow from database schema through payment logic to mobile UI, with integrations across Stripe Connect, Dropbox, Apple Wallet and SSO providers.Architectural Judgement & ReliabilityKept the architecture deliberately simple across 11+ years of continuous feature work: no premature abstractions, no bloat, consolidation only when a pattern has earned it. Stack choices made for stability over novelty; the codebase remains approachable at any layer.Designed and built the seating plan stack from scratch: a custom SVG pan/zoom engine hitting 60fps on mobile via matrix transforms, backed by an Azure Blob Storage cache for pre-computed seat state. Plans load in milliseconds rather than rebuilding from SQL on each request.Product Breadth & ComplianceIntroduced HMRC Gift Aid checkout declarations and reclaim reports, making charity tax reclaim a first-class flow in the platform rather than a bolt-on spreadsheet.Developed the offline-first mobile box-office app venue staff run on the door, with multi-layer storage and up to 100k cached tickets so scans still work in signal-dead venues.

ABOUT DANIEL HADDON
I believe the intersection of AI and software engineering is transforming what\'s possible for developers.Over 15+ years, I\'ve architected systems across diverse sectors including broadcast media (Fox News, RTL), government (CACI), retail (Superdry, Sainsbury\'s), and fintech. This breadth has taught me that great engineering transcends industries, it\'s about understanding problems deeply and building solutions that scale. My technical philosophy remains influenced by Tony Hoare\'s principle: software should be so simple that deficiencies are obvious, not so complex that they\'re hidden. This drives my approach whether I\'m designing services architectures, optimizing React performance, or integrating LLMs into production systems.Currently excited about: AI pair programming, and how small teams with AI can now compete with enterprises.
