About Daniel F. Rivera
I\'m an expert on Arabic politics, language, and culture. I have long experience working in the Middle East and Lebanon, particularly as a professor, researcher, and analyst. Now I am lecturing comparative politics in the MENA region in the School of International and Public Affairs at Florida International University. I also teach languages such as Arabic and Spanish at the University of Miami and Miami Dade College. I also give lectures in other universities on topics related to postcolonialism, modernization, the causes and consequences of political and economic development, authoritarianism and democratization, the influence of social movements, the role of women in Middle Eastern politics, regional inter-state relations, Islamism, Jihadism, terrorism, colonialism, foreign occupation, state-building, resistance and rebellion, and social movements such as the Arab uprisings Also, I collaborate with the media as an analyst commenting on Middle Eastern issues and news (2009-current). I have written as well various articles in different publications such as Al-Jazeera English, the Majalla, and, WebIslam among others, in three different languages: Arabic, English, and Spanish. I have experience doing research and development projects in associations like Hayya Bina and UMAM (2009) and I have worked as a language professor with the Spanish army in a UN mission, UNIFIL, in Marjayoun, Lebanon (2007-8). My current goal is to continue doing what I do the best, teaching and research in and about the Middle East, North Africa, and Central. Specialties: Arabic, English, Spanish, French, HTML, human resources, languages, research, development, and translation.
