As the Founder of Axial3D, I work closely with the company board and the senior leadership team with the focus of ensuring the company realises its core vision of making patient specific surgery routine. In this role, I am responsible for strategic management decisions and for implementing the company strategy.Since the beginning of 2016, I have been working to realise Axial3D as a viable startup venture. To achieve this, I graduated from the NISP’s Springboard program to help hone our commercialisation strategy. I also attended MIT Business School for an EDP program to reduce our go-to-market risk and to ensure that the company was investor-ready. Since then, we’ve been successful in raising over $30M in both equity and government-backed finance to secure our core team and future development.Axial3D specialises in creating AI-driven software for scaling the use of patient specific planning and device workflows across a range of surgical specialisms. The company offers a unique set of tools that process traditional 2D radiography images into patient-specific 3D files for a variety of uses in surgical intervention across a number of the industries leading Med Device Companies and Hospitals globally.

ABOUT DANIEL CRAWFORD

I have always believed that the best healthcare is personalised healthcare…Early in my career, I stumbled upon a way to innovate in the industry. At that stage, most surgeons were making life-changing decisions for their patients based on 2D medical scans that don’t always tell the full story. However, at medical school during a MSc in Medical Visualisation and Human Anatomy, I created a 3D-printed anatomical model of a patient’s fractured bones. When I presented it to the surgeon, he noticed a critical fracture that had been missed on the 2D scan, which would have changed the patient’s treatment plan. That moment shifted my perspective and set me on a path to solving a larger issue: how to make patient-specific surgical planning routine and scalable. In 2015, I founded Axial3D to bring this vision to life. Axial3D is an AI-powered medical segmentation company that helps hospitals and medical device manufacturers transform DICOM medical scans into precise, actionable 3D data. Our cloud-based platform automates the traditionally time-consuming process of medical segmentation, generating 3D anatomical models in hours rather than days.By eliminating these bottlenecks and reducing reliance on expensive hardware or additional staffing, we enable healthcare providers to integrate personalised solutions at scale. My mission in all of this is to bridge the gap between cutting-edge AI and real-world patient care. Too often, innovation in healthcare is slow and inaccessible, which is why my goal is to remove the barriers preventing medical device manufacturers and hospitals from adopting patient-specific solutions at scale. If you are in the medical device, surgical planning, or healthcare AI space, I would love to connect and explore how we can collaborate.
