About Daniel Benbow
I have worked in a variety of treatment modalities since 2014.Currently I am the Region 1 treatment specialist for the Division of Community Corrections, which covers Dane County, Janesville, Beloit, and Beaver Dam (WI). I do SUD assessments, run multiple SUD groups with clients on supervision, fill in as a clinical supervisor to review assessments, and contribute to/help edit the Region 1 DEI newsletter. As I become further integrated into this new position-I am the first treatment specialist for Region 1-I will collaborate with co-workers to streamline departmental policies. From 2018 until April of 2025, I taught EBP-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to SUD clients/pre-release inmates at a minimum security prison. I also did individual treatment planning, policy analysis/process improvement, case management/release planning, and continuing education presentations. Prior to working inside the fence, I was a counselor/case manager for 50 clients at the Madison West methadone clinic and a staff scheduler/policy analyst/fill-in facilitator for the Adult Residential Program at Tellurian, Madison\'s longest-running treatment organization.I began case management as a mental health rehab specialist/counselor for inner-city clients with dual diagnoses in the day treatment program at the East Bay Community Recovery Project in Oakland, CA.I tracked onto treatment work as a clinical researcher/care navigator at Merritt Mental Health (San Francisco). At Merritt Mental Health (MMH), I found mental health and/or SUD treatment resources for clients, helped build MMH\'s database of providers, and did research for \"Suicide Risk in the Bay Area: A Guide for Families, Physicians, Therapists, and Other Professionals,\" a comprehensive suicide prevention guide. I was hired at Merritt Mental Health due to my writing/research skills and extensive healthcare administration background (several years as a support staff coordinator/office manager/jack-of-all-trades administrator for Hospice by the Bay). Over the past 20+ years, my features have appeared at the Miami Herald, Salon, MSN.com, the New York Daily News, the Progressive, Truthout, RawStory, Getunderground/Kotori.com, and The Van Halen News Desk.I continue to seek an agent/publishing house for my debut novel about gentrification in dot.com-era San Francisco.
