About Daniel Barry
I lead the insurance regulatory team within the Law Department at Hiscox USA. I am privileged to lead a stellar team of in-house attorneys whose practice spans claims, marketing, products, underwriting, etc, mostly in the casualty/liability space.Prior to joining Hiscox I spent 2.5 years as Senior Counsel within the nationally recognized Insurance Regulatory & Transactional Practice at Locke Lord (now Troutman Pepper Locke) where my practice focused on matters involving insurance intermediaries, i.e, agents, brokers, MGAs, etc, mostly in the property & casualty space, with a personal emphasis on captive insurance.Prior to joining Locke Lord I spent more than 15 years working in compliance, government affairs, and law roles at TIAA, a Fortune 100 asset management, insurance, and retirement savings company. As in-house regulatory counsel I managed responses to regulator audits, examinations, and inquiries and negotiated document productions and remediations. As a registered lobbyist I advocated before state and federal policymakers on proposed statutes and regulations. I represented TIAA before multiple trade associations and managed ad hoc coalitions built around discrete policy objectives. At the intersection of these roles, I coordinated compliance programs for novel laws and regulations.I earned my LLM Insurance Law from the University of Connecticut where I received the Insurance Law Center Award.
