About Dan Ariely
I’m a Professor of Psychology and Behavioral Economics, and the author of three New York Times bestselling books. My work focuses on the surprising ways we behave and misbehave when it comes to decision-making. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with companies like Google, Apple, and governments including the U.S, Canada, and Australia to help design better systems for human behavior. I’ve also spoken at TED, the World Economic Forum, and many other organizations, all in an effort to make behavioral science more useful and actionable. My goal is simple: to help people better understand how we think so we can live more thoughtfully, make better choices, and when we inevitably make mistakes, at least make better ones. To put this work into practice, I’ve co-founded several initiatives: The Center for Advanced Hindsight – a research center dedicated to helping people live better using insights from behavioral economics. Irrational Capital – helping investors understand how motivation and employee engagement can affect company performance. Irrational Labs and BEworks – behavioral science consultancies that bring behavioral thinking into products, services, and organizations. Shapa – a health platform designed to help people manage their health and behavior without judgment or pressure. My recent projects focus on improving decision-making in areas like health, money, and bureaucracy. At the Center for Advanced Bureaucracy, we explore ways to reduce inefficiencies in organizations by improving motivation and engagement. You can explore some of this work for free at bureaucracy.danariely.com. I’m also deeply interested in understanding how people come to believe false ideas, a topic I explore in my latest book, Misbelief.
