About Dana Groff

An experienced software engineering director, technical program manager, developer evangelist, software architect, project leader and software developer with over 40 years’ experience developing highly scalable software for AI, data management, distributed systems, storage, and parallel processing. Most of my positions mix deep technical innovation, management and direct customer interaction.I build and develop teams. My expertise includes technical leadership and coaching with a human focus and also by bringing order to chaos; herding cats and developers; seeing the non-obvious; understanding motivations instead of seeing threats; getting to yes and driving for a clear no; making sense from nonsense; and communicating value and confidence.I manage teams. Typically I manage leads, line managers and highly experienced engineers; my teams range upwards to 35 or more people located worldwide. I keep my teams engaged by developing a personal relationship with all the engineers without undermining their relationship with their line management. I develop my managers to do the same and practice servant-leader intent-based management. I have hired 100s of engineers.My teams and I create robust and maintainable software through engineering best practices in architecture and design which employ high-performance parallel and concurrent design patterns.
