ABOUT DANA ALAN KOCH

Over 40 years\' experience in creating exceptional brain friendly learning experiences. With a background in neuroscience, learning science, cognitive science, and research, I led Accenture\'s Institute for the Applied Learning Sciences and innovation teams for over a decade. The Institute\'s purpose was threefold: 1) create brain friendly learning programs by ensuring designs leveraged the latest research in the learning sciences and neuroscience 2) improve teacher effectiveness by educating them on how the way they teach impacts the brains of their students and how to optimize instruction to be brain friendly 3) Improve learner effectiveness by teaching learners how their brain learns and how to enhance their ability to learn through exercise, sleep, nutrition, and stress managementThe team I led conducted extensive research on principles of learning durability. By applying these principles into learning experiences, we were able to improve retention, improve learner engagement and satisfaction, improve the quality of teaching. These improvements led to happier learners and to maximizing learning investment.Our team also led our Future of Learning research where we used futurism techniques to understand plausible futures for the learning industry. We would take these insights and create the future of learning by defining, piloting and developing scalable, learning innovations to solve business problems which required new capabilities.I was able to share our team\'s research to audiences in workshops and conferences around the globe as part of our broader goal of improving learning worldwide. I\'ve written hundreds of blogs, written several articles and book chapters, served on and chaired learning advisory and editorial boards. I hold several patents for learning innovations and currently co-host the Learning Geeks podcast.Although retired, I continue to engage with the learning, neuroscience, and wellness communities to increase my understanding, share research-based insights at online workshops, and improve my own ability to learn and teach.
