ABOUT DAN SHEEHAN
In my current role I lead the Engineering Data Systems team who develop data and analytics solutions to both the product development team and the aftermarket and services divisions. The team comprises of 5 Engineering Data Scientists, 2 Senior Data Scientists and an Analytics Project Lead in both the UK and in India. The team\'s mission is to make engineering data, and analysis tools available to development engineers to enable them to make data driven product decisions. Virtual channel modelling, machine learning, reduced order models, data engineering, web app development and business insight development are some of the skills within the team. in the same role,I am also the manager for the mechanical system engine architects (team of 4 architects) who are responsible for the whole engine design coming together cohesively. The role requires the architects to optimise the interactions of the various mechanical sub systems, characterise critical interactions between the engine and the customer\'s machine, and ensure the engine product meets customer requirements.I am a people manager and have managed a global team for 4 years and have developed skill in developing people, growing a happy team, and recruiting. I have 12 years of experience in industrial off-highway diesel engine new product introduction. My experience includes project management, requirements cascade management, risk management through DFMEA, verification and validation plan management, problem solving and issue resolution and mechanical systems engineering. Recently through my role in data I have a working knowledge of robust data engineering, condition monitoring, machine learning, advanced data analytics and collaborative code development. I have experience, and good technical knowledge of a range of diesel engine technologies and systems. I have personally worked on 0.5 litre inline twin to 7.1 litre inline 6 industrial diesel engines at Caterpillar, including machine integration, reliability and durability testing, and issue resolution.
