Dan Schmutz is a Vice President for Greenman-Pedersen, Inc.(GPI) and the Chief Environmental Scientist, responsible for environmental science Quality Assurance (QA) and statistically-sound study design throughout the Florida offices. He has 21 years of professional experience in ecology, with 18 of those years focused almost exclusively on the development and application of ecological and hydrological field assessments, GIS analyses, and appropriate statistical techniques for addressing questions of interest to water supply managers. With more than 15 years of project management experience, he has overseen several regional-scale multidisciplinary wetland hydrological and ecological condition evaluations for both water suppliers (e.g, Tampa Bay Water) and their regulatory agencies (e.g, the Southwest Florida Water Management District [SWFWMD]). Mr. Schmutz also performs Minimum Flow and Level evaluations, water supply planning, wetland and upland habitat assessments, ecological impact assessments, wetland rapid assessment techniques, hydrologic data evaluations, conceptual mitigation planning, threatened and endangered species surveys, aerial imagery interpretation, and scientific report writing. He has applied his water resource expertise to numerous water supply projects throughout peninsular Florida while assisting the SWFWMD, the Suwannee River Water Management District, Tampa Bay Water, and other municipal water suppliers, including: Orange County, Sarasota County, Hernando County, the City of Winter Haven, and Citrus County. Mr. Schmutz has provided statistical analysis services for Water Use Permit compliance for nine major southwest and central Florida water suppliers. He has applied his ecological expertise to habitat restoration projects for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and to conservation easement projects for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP).
