Having stepped up to be the lead engineer for our small cloud/infrastructure team I still have all the same duties as I did as a senior, plus additional \'higher level\' work. We still need to maintain the same self-hosted and cloud-based SaaS solutions, as well as our in-house tooling. I have been responsible for the comparison, procurement, deployment, and now ongoing maintenance of solutions for engineering authentication, authorisation, and accounting on-call tooling, and more. I remain involved in system design discussions beyond just how it interacts with the infra, and have led the architecting and development of our cross-region failover solution and the changes necessary to support that both in-infra and in-app.As a lead, I have a responsibility to mentor new colleagues in the infrastructure team, and to spread knowledge about our infra and general good development practises (particularly related to reliability/resilience, and monitoring/alerting) among the wider engineering group. I am particularly involved with low-level performance and scalability work done by other teams, as that is often interrelated with the capabilities of the core database and underlying infra. I am a key part, alongside our engineering manager and the CTO, of the discovery, planning, and prioritisation of infra work looking further ahead to the company\'s future requirements. Our expected scale, resiliency (and/or disaster recovery) targets, and regulatory requirements as a bank are common themes.My role also extends beyond engineering. I led the design and roll-out of our on-call processes, allowing us to operate and support the bank 24/7. This involved working closely with members of our People team and with Finance to spec out the requirements, limitations, compensation, and reporting to ensure a minimum of additional paperwork/overhead across the company. I have also written and had approved by our board or executive committee various internal policies and procedures.

Experienced agile software engineer and DevOps practitioner with a background in network and systems administration and a passion for designing and developing high performance and scalable platforms and backend APIs.These platforms and APIs have been built on both the AWS and GCP cloud platforms, and have made use of both SQL and NoSQL databases, the Apache Kafka streaming system, and provided a variety of interfaces, both REST and non-REST.I am most used to working in a DevOps environment consisting of small teams (2-10 developers) using agile development practises (either Scrum or Kanban) and pair programming, where more senior engineers such as myself are expected to mentor and guide more junior colleagues.
