About Daniel Fleming

I grew up on a farm and knew early in my college experience that I wanted to contribute to the resilience of agriculture and the livelihoods of growers through science-based, practical solutions. My first job in college was in an entomology department where I got hooked on insects. That experience led me to pursue an M.S. and Ph.D. in entomology, and since then I’ve built a career focused on understanding the biology and ecology of crop pests and how management practices influence production. My work spans field, laboratory, and meta-analytical research. I’ve conducted everything from small-plot pesticide efficacy trials, to PCR and ELISA assays, area-wide behavioral ecology studies with pheromones, and pesticide runoff assessments. Along the way, I’ve also found that I thrive as a relationship builder—collaborating with cross-disciplinary colleagues and outside researchers to bridge lab and field work, launch trials on short timelines and limited budgets, and design and implement research projects to screen and evaluate products for biological efficacy. My career goal is to help growers through applied science and practical solutions that will make farming both economically and environmentally resilient. Whether in academia, industry, or the non-profit sector, what matters most to me is ensuring that growers have access to knowledge or tools that deliver real results, improve sustainability, and strengthen their livelihoods. My goal could be fulfilled in both lab or field research and in either support or leadership roles. Expertise includes:Agricultural Product Development | Integrated Pest Management | Behavioral Pest Management | Field Formulation Screening | Field Trial Coordination | Ecology-Based Research | Pesticide Runoff | Conservation Agriculture | Meta-analysis | Laboratory Assays | Project Management | Relationship Management | Pheromones
