ABOUT DAN EDMUNDS

I\'m proud to be a technical editor at Car and Driver, a publication I\'ve admired from afar since I began reading auto magazines as a teen. At the time, I never thought I\'d ever work for them because I saw myself as more of a math guy than a writer. And so it was with my early career, where my mechanical engineering degree set me up for two long stints working in suspension development for two different automakers at their proving grounds. Vehicle evaluation and descriptive product analysis were a key part of those jobs, so without realizing I\'d set myself up to become an automotive journalist, third-party vehicle evaluation specialist, vehicle market suitability analyst, and video host/presenter at Edmunds.com. During the COVID pandemic I briefly went back to the vehicle development side as a technical sales rep for AB Dynamics, a prominent developer of vehicle dynamics driving robots I\'d once used at one of my proving ground jobs. Once there, I was exposed to their line of synchronized vehicle and pedestrian target systems for ADAS and AV development, kinematics and compliance machines, and full range of vehicle development simulator products. I learned a lot about the current state of advanced vehicle development in that job, but I also realized that I wasn\'t in love with a sales role. Throughout, I maintained a suspension-related YouTube channel and wrote occasional articles for Autoblog and Car and Driver on the side, and that brought me full circle to a full-time job writing for my favorite magazine.
