I’m a driven scientist specializing in combining wet lab techniques and laboratory automation to produce novel high throughput protocols and screens. For the past 13 years I’ve been working with numerous laboratory automation systems to develop high throughput protocols. These systems include Beckman-Coulter Biomek FX/FXp, Tecan Freedom EVO, Singer RoTor HDA, Genetix Qpix2, Brooks Sonicman, Perkin Elmer Labchip GX, ABI 7900HT and 7500, ABI 3730 DNA Analyzer, Tecan Infinite PRO plate readers, and Maxwell Robots. High-throughput automated techniques developed with these instruments include: qPCR karyotyping of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Candida albicans, transformation of yeast via lithium acetate or electroporation, using synthetic genetic array (SGA) technology to create panels of custom double deletion mutants or double fluorescent tagged strains of S. cerevisiae and S. pombe, high yield column and magnetic bead based 96-well plasmid preps, preps of yeast for flow cytometry analysis, Yeast/bacterial colony picking and screening, PCR validation screening, 96-well Western blotting, Yeast normalization, serial dilution, and spotting assays, Validation of chromosome enrichment by flow cytometry, Yeast based High Content Screening (HCS), molecular cloning, Spectral karyotyping (SKY) of both human and mouse cell lines.Trained as a molecular biologist, I started out genotyping populations of paddlefish by restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) and validating microarray data by PCR and gel electrophoresis. I’ve also spent time as a microbiologist culturing the nitrogen fixing bacteria Rhizobium for various agricultural products. I spent over one year providing DNA Sanger sequencing service moving on to automating techniques such as DNA/RNA isolations, bacteria/yeast transformations, PCR, qPCR, RT-PCR, DOP-PCR, molecular cloning, site-directed mutagenesis, and Western Blotting.
