ABOUT DAN BOLAND

Having recently graduated from University with a First-Class Degree in Performing Arts, I have been able to start using the skills I developed there in my current job. At University, I learnt about Contemporary Theatre, Technology and the ways we can integrate different mediums into a performance whether to aid or be the sole focus of the performance. I learnt how to construct and deconstruct projects with a societal underlining, I have devised performances with projection mapping elements. I have learnt how to prototype work in a time-efficient manner. I devised a solo project where I was the performer, director, writer, sound engineer and programmed and operated the lights. During my time at University, I had the opportunity to work with highly established Theatre Company, Gecko. This was a collaborative project between Gecko and De Montfort University. As well as being one of the performers, I took on a number of non-performing job roles. I was part of the marketing team, where my job was to manage the collaborative Facebook page, where we posted behind-the-scenes content, I.e rehearsals, meetings etc. We released a trailer which was my job to gather footage and edit together. Midway into the project, Covid-19 hit and we went into lockdown. We had to adapt this performance into an online project. On top of being a performer and social media manager, I joined the editing team. We had to gather 100s of videos filmed from the performers in their own homes and put together a performance in less than a week. We successfully released the online collaborative project in a short time. I took the skills I have learnt from University and joined the social media agency, Nonsensical. Working with Nonsensical as a Tiktok Content Creator allows me to broadcast my creative side. It has given me a chance to expand my editing skills and learn new techniques on how to produce content in a creative way. This experience has allowed me to work with a number of diverse clients all expecting top quality content on a deadline. Moving forward, I am ambitious to see how I can apply all the skills I have learnt from my experiences into a creative yet demanding role and continue developing my artistic side.
