ABOUT DAMIAN GILBERTSON
I’m a dynamic Sales & Marketing Leader with a track record of success in the Supply Chain & Logistics industry in the UK and Europe. I have led and built high impact sales and marketing teams, and driven exceptional growth under challenging conditions. Career BackgroundA sales-based career appealed to me from an early age, and I started my career working in the logistics sector at DHL.Although I dislike the term ‘head-hunted’, this was what moved me to UPS when it first set up in the UK. I spent almost a decade there, during which time I was a co-founder and shareholder of the start-up company Parcel2go.com. I had a brief detour into the entry management industry with BID before moving into a business sales role at FedEx, which evolved into a global role in the Netherlands. My three years as Sales and Marketing Director at Schoeller Allibert included responsibility for a £55m budget and EBITA in the returnable transit packaging (RTP) market. This was a challenging period for the manufacturing field due to Brexit headwinds. My current role is UK Corporate Sales Director at Palletways, Europe’s largest provider of express palletised distribution services, where I am a member of the senior management team. There were huge challenges when COVID-19 arrived, but I successfully led the rapid remote retraining of our sales staff to cope with the huge increase in demand while learning to sell and present online.I now lead a cross-functional team of both direct & indirect reports, of around 183 professionals. I have achieved double-digit growth in turnover/EBITA year on year in this role, and have been responsible for planning and delivering complex change projects, accountable to the UK MD and Group CCO. In summaryAs a natural people’s person, I build lasting relationships with ease and can influence diverse stakeholders internationally, winning hearts and minds and delivering complex change programmes. A respected leader in the industry, I partner with senior colleagues, developing and delivering strategic goals across multi-modal transportation and capital equipment industries. My approach to management is to be the kind of manager I want to work for — I’m passionate about coaching and developing careers, and building capability and talent pipelines.
