ABOUT DAISY BATEMAN
I am a dual-degree candidate at American University, pursuing a B.A. in Criminal Justice and an M.A. in Political Communication through an accelerated track. I am a second semester senior and a first year graduate student simultaneously through this program. At AARP’s National Headquarters, I lead DEI outreach and streamline advocacy tools for a volunteer network, mobilizing grassroots engagement around healthcare access and aging policy. As a Research and Teaching Assistant, I’ve advanced scholarship on policing reform, synthesizing case law, academic literature, and survey data into actionable policy recommendations. My legal foundation began at the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, where I supported trial preparation and victim advocacy early in my undergraduate career. Since then, I’ve expanded my lens through editorial journalism, campus leadership, and a thesis on populist rhetoric; building a toolkit that blends emotional intelligence, historical analysis, and strategic communication.I am passionate about making advocacy accessible: crafting coalition-centered messaging, designing emotionally resonant storytelling, and delivering info-dense synthesis that empowers communities to engage with policy on their own terms.
