About Daimeon Cotton

I’m a Michigan lawyer who spends my free time writing when I’m not hanging out with family and friends. I write on topics involving law, business, entrepreneurship, inspiration and motivation. I self-published my first book,\"Straight Law Talk THE BOOK: How Entrepreneurs Can Avoid the Legal Pitfalls of Running a Business, Make Money with Confidence and Love What They Do.\" This book was conceived from years of counseling successful businesses and running my own business. I’ve been fortunate to work with great attorneys and business leaders and it is a joy to share what I’ve learned about starting a business from scratch. I’ve been recognized as one of the top attorneys in my practice area by Michigan Super Lawyers Rising Stars, America’s Top 100 Bet-the-Company Litigators and The National Black Lawyers Top 100 as a top attorney under age 40 in Michigan. I’ve written and presented on workplace issues involving state and federal law. My work has been published by institutions such as The Institute of Continuing Legal Education (ICLE), which is a leading institution for continuing legal education for lawyers. My work was published as a secondary source with Thomson Reuters’ Practical Law on Worker’s Compensation Law in Michigan. I’ve appeared on WHPR TV 33 Comcast television to discuss employment topics such as discrimination, retaliation and sexual harassment in the workplace. I appeared on “Your Best Chance, With Judge Nance” with Radio Superstation 910AM to inform the public about their rights and legal options during the global pandemic. I earned a law degree from Wayne State University Law School and a Master of Arts in Dispute Resolution from Wayne State University. As an attorney and dispute resolution professional, I participate in mediation and arbitration. I serve as a Hearing Officer for non-union employee disputes at the City of Detroit. I enjoy serving the community. I’ve served on the Board of Trustees for Crossroads of Michigan, a non-profit organization that provides social services, food services, and other programs for anyone in need. I served on the Board of Directors for the Wolverine Bar Association (where I served as Chair of the Mentorship Committee for 2 years), which is an organization of African American attorneys coalesced to address pressing legal and political issues. I received a Certificate of Recognition from Michigan Community Resources for my work involving nuisance abatement of properties in the City of Detroit.
