About D. A. Darlene Gray

Endocrinologists and Obstetricians WANTED 4 TEAMWORK! Screening prior to pregnancy for “baseline of comparison” to use upon becoming pregnant and throughout the duration of the pregnancy and in the IV Trimester if medical or depressive like symptoms arise!2. Screening for compromised Pituitary (possible shut-down of TSH to the Thyroid Gland) must be considered if a new mom cannot shake the maternal blues away. At this point it would be medically prudent to check for endocrine abnormalities! There are “Sister Syndromes” of an endocrine system imbalance that can cause several different problems with the thyroid gland getting enough TSH after giving birth! Yes, the “normal” let-down of hormones, “Blues”(shades of sadness) are supposed to start decreasing after childbirth, but if an unknown thyroid or pituitary gland imbalance exists, either can negatively effect recovery for the new mom. It is important to know to see a Specialist at this point. A more serious issue can exist in the “Hypothalamus-Thyroid-Pituitary Axis” where they’re not working in tandem. These three (3) glands above must work together for perinatal wellness! OB’s need to fully screen for possible endocrine abnormalities! If there is any question within the “AXIS” — a referral to an Endocrinologist is prudent — and provides one more preventative step within the perinatal continuum. Obstetricians MUST BE TRAINED in Medical School to know what to LOOK FOR and HOW TO RESPOND when emergencies arise in pregnancy, LABOR and/or any Emergency situations! Endocrinologists must be part of a Team effort to assist OB’s to cover the hormonal imbalances brought on by undiagnosed and untreated endocrine glands failure to function. Why? Because saving lives matter!
