About Cyrus Simper
I’m a Clinical Diet Tech at Intermountain Health with experience supporting patient-centered care through modified diet planning, nutrition screening, and EHR documentation. I work closely with interdisciplinary teams to ensure patients with complex needs — including dialysis, diabetes, and IDDSI-modified diets — receive meals that align with provider orders, safety standards, and nutritional requirements. I’m currently pursuing a B.S. in Sociology with a Quantitative Analysis emphasis at the University of Utah and completing a Medical Assistant program to deepen my understanding of both clinical workflows and healthcare systems. My capstone project, “Demographic and Contextual Predictors of Mental Health Distress During the COVID-19 Pandemic,” used weighted linear regression on nationally representative Pew Research Center survey data (Wave 64, ATP) to assess how factors such as gender, age, race/ethnicity, pandemic perception, and life disruption correlated with psychological distress. The model revealed statistically significant disparities—particularly for younger, female, and minority respondents—highlighting vulnerabilities that remain under-addressed in current healthcare systems. As the U.S. approaches a second Trump administration, projected policy shifts in Medicaid funding, mental health access, and public health infrastructure may further stress healthcare delivery systems. I aim to contribute to hospital operations and human resources by applying data-driven insights to workforce strategy, policy implementation, and care delivery optimization. As part of my continued professional development, I’m preparing to earn SHRM certification by the end of 2025. I’m especially interested in the intersection of healthcare operations, HR strategy, and hospital administration — and I’m exploring opportunities that connect patient care with people and system-level improvement.
