Mitotherapeutix was created to take advantage of advancements in RNA chemistry and its use in developing siRNA based drugs that can target otherwise difficult to address disease targets. Our first target is DNAJC15, a gene that is responsible for the production of a peptide MCJ (Methylation Controlled J Protein), which is an endogenous mitochondrial repressor. We have explored the function of this metabolic regulator in different tissues and disease states and have found that turning off the regulator can have a positive effect in disease treatment. Our initial focus is in liver disease (NASH and acute liver injury), kidney disease (polycystic kidney disease and acute kidney injury), and immuno- related cancer/CD8 T-cells.
