Informed decision-making is the hallmark of good governance. It requires accurate data collection, management and interpretation. My consulting services are rooted in my over 15 years of experience working for state and non-profit organizations in ocean management and conservation. This have given me a diverse network of contacts, knowledge and experience. Current projects are focused on offshore energy, the blue economy and marine protected area performance evaluation. ABOUT CYNDI DAWSON

I have a wide range of experience leading complex multidisciplinary scientific projects both nationally and internationally. Primarily my work has focused on working with fishing communities to build partnerships and address complex issues such as fishing regulations, marine protected areas, sustainable certification and monitoring the effects of regulations on biological populations and fishing generated revenue. All my previous work has included a significant education component to a wide variety of audiences including children, fisherman, scientists, tribes and other ocean stakeholders. I also have experience preparing documentation for CEQA/CESA and managing special status plant and animal populations. I have developed, built, and implemented all aspects of research projects from conceptualization to publication. I am a dynamic leader that has experience hiring, supervising, and developing staff, fund raising, managing budgets, developing and managing large databases, developing formal institutional partnerships and liaising with resource managers and decision makers. A key to the success I have had is my ability to focus on bringing a comprehensive understanding of the best available science to whatever project I am working on. I effectively communicate with a wide variety of institutions and individuals to build partnerships and gather both in-kind and monetary support. I have built an extensive professional network of contacts which includes members of local, state and federal agencies as well as the philanthropic community.
